The Valley Park School District is seeking passionate, energetic, and student-centered staff members for the Assistant Drama Coordinator position. The ideal candidate will support the theater program by providing a safe, supportive environment and ensuring students gain practical and creative skills through hands-on experience in technical theater production. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate in the creation of an application for student participants.  

  • Read and study scripts to understand the production needs.  

  • Attend audition preparation workshops for students.  

  • Attend auditions and score student work using the rubric.  

  • Attend callback auditions as needed for casting.  

  • Work with the Drama Coordinator to cast the show using predetermined criteria and audition results.  

  • Work with the Drama Coordinator to create a detailed rehearsal schedule accommodating student conflicts.  

  • Teach students appropriate behavior on and off stage.  

  • Conduct chunked set builds and backstage rehearsals to ensure students are well prepared.  

  • Work with the Drama Coordinator to run full acts of the show with students, both on- and off-book.  

  • Maintain weekly communication with students and families to ensure clarity on schedules 

    and expectations.  

  • Collaborate in designing the program and marketing materials.  

  • Assist with printing and distribution of marketing materials.  

  • Shop for last-minute supplies as needed.  

  • Ensure the stage and system are clean, organized, and put away after each rehearsal and performance. 

  • Plot costume designs and needs; rent, purchase, or help students create costumes.

  • Design the set in collaboration with the co-director and students.  

  • Maintain microphones and equipment if needed (batteries, wires, iPad program updates).  

  • Learn the newly installed lighting system and teach students how to operate and maintain it.  

  • Develop a prop plot and list with students.  

  • Create a lighting plot with students.  

  • Set lights (early morning with designated personnel) and reset lights as needed.  

  • Teach students how to design/build sets, props, and costumes.  

  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as needed based on the nature of the production and the experience of the cast and crew members.

Certification: Missouri State Teaching Certificate
