Description: Valley Park Middle School seeks a highly-qualified, student-centered Science Teacher. Valley Park Middle School is committed to challenging students to achieve academic excellence and personal success by providing personalized, high-quality instruction and a challenging, relevant curriculum within a warm, caring, student-centered environment. Science teachers guide students to see the interconnectedness and application of the science topics they study. Our diverse student population requires teachers to differentiate instruction and assess learning using a variety of methods. A strong foundation in middle school pedagogy is necessary. 

 

The Successful Candidate:

• Is knowledgeable about middle school philosophy and the developmental needs of adolescents and will be able to present the curriculum using a problem-centered approach.
• Demonstrates appropriate long and short-term preparation for classroom instruction.
• Holds high expectations for all students and sees themselves as facilitators of student learning.
• Organizes and uses a variety of teaching techniques, strategies, materials, and technology to maximize the learning of each child, individually and in group settings.
• Assesses student progress, provides students and parents with specific feedback, and uses the results to adjust instruction as needed.
• Provides opportunities for academic support and challenge.
• Takes responsibility for teaching the District curriculum as outlined in the curriculum documents.
• Demonstrates an understanding of how knowledge in their subject areas is created, organized, and linked to other disciplines and life experiences.
• Keep abreast of current developments in their field and continue to deepen understanding of the discipline(s).
• Establishes and maintains a functional, attractive, orderly, and safe classroom environment that is conducive to student learning and builds a sense of community.

 

Education: Bachelor's Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred.

 

Certification: Valid Missouri teacher certification with required middle school science endorsements (REQUIRED).

Additional middle school certifications in ELA and/or Reading preferred.

Experience: Preferred.
